
31st Remained in prison. Feb. 1st. still in prison, with orders to march on tomorrow.– 2d. at 2 o’clock were on the march for Saltillo, under the com’d of Co’l. Saragan, 150 infantry and the same cavelry, reached the Rancho of St. Catherine, 12 [62?] m. distance and encamped in a church for the first time (while at Monterey we was treated well, our rations was good and the Governor allowed 6 1/4 cts. a day, the citizen forigners furnished us with [sic] those who were barefooted with Guarachas or (sandals).
3d. Marched 24 miles and encamped at the Rancho Rinconather, here we were prepared for a charge, but it was not accomplis[hed] owing Cap’t Reese.– 27th.[sic] Marched 27 miles and encamped at the Rancho of _______ “Cap’t C. E. Reese, conduct _______ our course since we left Montery has been nearly west, inclining up the valley between ledges of Mountains, the scenery here would appear beautiful to any one passing under different circumstances, but we being generally hungry, thirsty and tired, had no taste for the beau-tiful-scenery- ties [sic] of nature.
